David’s teaching approach is centered on the integrated learning of body and mind in music-making. His work draws on insights from disciplines such as Qigong, contemporary neuroscience, Chopin’s pedagogical principles, and the exercises of Peter Feuchtwanger. Through this holistic framework, he guides pianists toward a natural, efficient, and effortless approach to piano playing.
As a board member of the Peter Feuchtwanger Society, David helps organising the annual Feuchtwanger Piano Symposium in Feuchtwangen, Germany.
The Feuchtwanger Piano Symposium includes:
Lectures on interpretation, repertoire analysis, and historical performance practice, as taught by Peter Feuchtwanger.
Practical workshops on the physiological aspects of piano technique, featuring Feuchtwanger’s Piano Exercises for Curing Playing Related Disorders and for Acquiring a Functional and Natural Approach to Piano Playing, led by former assistants of Prof. Feuchtwanger.
Sessions on Alexander Technique and Qigong.
Presentations on recent research and new pedagogical applications of Feuchtwanger’s ideas, illustrated with practical examples at the piano.
For practical tuition, David has years of experience with the exercises and offers individual teaching and masterclasses throughout the year.
Jean-Jacques Eigeldinger’s book Chopin vu par ses élèves contains amongst other things Chopin’s independent finger exercises. They are extremely helpful making even the hardest passages perfectly playable.
Together with Anthony Hughes he shows how they are perfectly in line with Peter Feuchtwanger’s excercises.
As a member of EPTA The Netherlands he collaborates sharing his expertise and juring at the exams.
As a neuropsychologist, David understands that piano playing is the most complete brain workout. His teaching approach incorporates the latest neuroscience findings, fostering a brain-friendly method for learning piano that reduces frustration and increases enjoyment.
Research demonstrates how short, mindful repetitions optimize skill learning and prevent injury.
